Glencoe Regional Health Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications from local students pursuing healthcare careers. During this year’s cycle, two scholarship award pools are available.
The first is the longstanding Sanken-Hatz Scholarship. The foundation awards these scholarships each year to students pursuing healthcare careers within the Glencoe Regional Health service area, with a preference for patient-facing roles.
The program also remembers and honors Carl Sanken, a farmer from the Biscay area, and Don Hatz, a farmer and postal clerk from the Glencoe area.
Over the years, many other individuals, families, and businesses have offered their generosity, too.
Sanken-Hatz Scholarship awards range from $1,000 to $1,500, and multiple recipients are selected each year. During the 2024 cycle, 53 students received these scholarships.
The second scholarship pool is the new Carver Family Scholarship. Created by the family and in memory of Carol Carver, this scholarship is focused on a student who desires to work in a rural setting, is pursuing a healthcare career, and is originally from or has a permanent residential address within the current Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL) School District. One student will be selected for a $2,500 award.
The application window for both scholarships will close Monday, March 31. Both scholarships can support students at the associate, undergraduate, and graduate levels.
“We are excited to partner with students who want to help and heal through their chosen careers. We have been investing in our healthcare workforce with these scholarships since 2002. And last year, we celebrated more than $1 million in scholarship impact since the launch of the Sanken-Hatz Scholarship Program,” shared Liz Cheney, CFRE, foundation director. “The Carver Family’s scholarship is a wonderful addition to our strategy to support the next generation of healthcare professionals. It also demonstrates a new option for community members who want to partner with us on new scholarship opportunities.”
