LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – HEB is partnering with The 100 Black Men of West Texas organization for its 30th anniversary scholarship gala.
As part of its partnership, HEB has donated $30,000 towards the organization’s scholarship program. This year’s gala is at 6:30 p.m. on June 21 inside the Overton Hotel and Conference Center.
The goal of the organization is to support the educational aspirations of future leaders who will uplift the community.
The President of the West Texas chapter, Reggie Dial, wants to emphasize what a partnership, like the one it has with HEB, means to not only students receiving scholarships but others as well.
“You know what? It’s not so much about us and what we receive, it’s about what the community may be able to get out of it. The value that these young people may be able to get out of it. They will be able to further their education, you know, with these funds. Live out their dreams. So, it’s not so much about The 100, it’s about what we’re able to provide our community,” Dial said.
Since its inception in 1963, the West Texas chapter of The 100 has awarded more than $630,000 in scholarships and has mentored more than 1,500 at-risk youth.
