High school seniors seeking scholarships for a four-year college, vocational training after high school, or an associate’s degree from a community college are invited to complete a Ramona Woman’s Club application.
The 113-year-old service organization, believed to be the first organization established in the Santa Maria Valley, invites seniors at Ramona High School, Montecito High School, and Mountain Valley Academy to apply for scholarships of at least $1,000. Ramona Woman’s Club last year awarded three $1,000 scholarships.
The club awards two types of scholarships: the Mary White Scholarship for those attending a four-year college to earn a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree and the Ellie Whitcomb Scholarship for those seeking vocational training or an Associate in Arts degree.
Applicants must have attended a high school in Ramona for at least two full years; maintain a 3.0 or better grade point average; apply for one of the two types of scholarships offered; be in need of financial assistance; and have a future goal.
Applications are available at each school. Applications include the applicant’s academic achievements, community service and/or employment activities, and extracurricular activities and awards as well as a personal statement and one letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or community member.
They are to be mailed to the Ramona Woman’s Club, P.O. Box 735, Ramona, CA 92065 and postmarked no later than Monday, March 3.
More information is available from students’ high school counselors or Ramona Woman’s Club President Jill McKenzie at 760-315-2039.
