The Kilgore Legacy Foundation is hosting an essay competition to select a Queen and King for Juneteenth 2025.
Deadline is Feb. 16. Essay must be emailed to: The Kilgore Legacy Foundation, kilgorelegacyfoundation@gmail.com.
The requirements are as follows:
1. Candidate must be high school senior or college student up to the age of 21 at the time of submission.
2. Each candidate must also submit an essay of 500 to 1,000 words on the subject “What Juneteenth Means to Me,” typed and double spaced.
3. Each candidate must also attach a photo and biography. Example: name, date of birth, phone number, school or interest of education, email address, hobbies, goals, interests, etc.
4. Each candidate must agree to participate in all Kilgore Legacy Foundation 2025 events as education permits:
• March 8: Black Tie Gala at Texan Theatre at 7 p.m.
• June 14: Juneteenth Parade and Fun Fest; Presentation of Scholarships, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Kilgore Christmas Parade (optional)
5. Winners of the competition will receive a $1,000 scholarship that will be presented at the Fun Fest Celebration.
6. Winners will be asked to read the winning Essay at the Black Tie Gala and Juneteenth Fun Fest.
7. Winners will be contacted by phone. If you are not selected as the winner, KLF will notify you via email. The essay will be judged independent of all foundation members.
8. Please remember that Kilgore Legacy Foundation is a nonprofit organization and must follow laws set forth by state and federal governing bodies.
9. Contest is not open to immediate family members of the Kilgore Legacy Foundation.
