TRENDING:
Kutztown FFA members were recognized at the PA FFA Mid-Winter Convention held in the New Holland Arena at the Pennsylvania Farm Show on Jan. 6.
Three seniors were a part of the record-breaking 511 Keystone Degree recipients from across the commonwealth. These students, who were awarded the highest degree available at the state level, have completed 300 hours or invested $1,000 in their Supervised Agricultural Experience Projects, held leadership positions, met community service requirements, and have been extensively involved in their FFA chapter.
The Keystone Degree recipients from Kutztown include seniors Hailey Bauscher, Zoie Jones and Lyndsey Smith.
Also, 11 Kutztown FFA members were involved in the record-breaking 1,369 FFA Jacket Scholarships awarded, making it the largest single-order of jackets in National FFA history.
These students received their very own FFA jackets to kickstart their FFA journey. The blue corduroy jacket unifies members in a long-standing tradition and reminds them that they are part of something larger than themselves.
Jacket Scholarship recipients from Kutztown include Katelyn Berger, Kyler Butz, Alyssa Daub, Dexter George, Chase Hugo, Elliot Knutsen, Emelia Lewis, Gabrielle Loeb, Elizabeth, O’Dell, Destiny Varela-Herb and Cohen Weisner.
Jan. 6’s weather forecast led to a snow day for many schools across the commonwealth, including Kutztown.
“We still wanted to recognize our members’ important accomplishments, even if they weren’t able to attend the Mid-Winter Convention that day,” Chapter Advisor and agriculture teacher Ayla Blatt said in a statement. “Our officer team decided to dedicate a portion of our January meeting to celebrating our Keystone Degree and Jacket Scholarship recipients.”
“Watching the students put on their jackets for the very first time and start the first step of a life-changing journey is such a fulfilling experience,” Blatt said.
When asked “What does the FFA jacket mean to you?” Kutztown freshman and jacket recipient, Katelyn Berger answered: “The FFA jacket represents hard work, dedication, leadership skills and fun agricultural activities with fellow FFA members. FFA is a building block to a young person’s future in the field of agriculture.”
The mission statement of the National FFA Organization is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
