Let’s hear from our various school boards, superintendents, and law enforcement about what they are doing preemptively to make our schools safer against school shootings. They all gather at the microphones when a shooting occurs to compliment each other in how they worked together to solve the crime etc. for hours on end. Then not much is done. Ask them and then publish what they say they have done, not promises but real action.

President Kerry Jantz announced today that the Friends of Macomb Township: A Community Foundation will again award ten $1,000 scholarships to deserving Macomb Township high school graduating senior students.  We are very excited about again offering financial help to some of our finest Macomb Township students to attend a post-secondary or career/technical institute or an apprenticeship program of their choice.  We hope this scholarship effort will be a successful FofMT event once again to help us meet our mission of enhancing the educational, recreational, and cultural activities in Macomb Township.”
Applications will be available from Feb. 3 through March 14. Ten scholarships will now be awarded to students attending a community college, a four-year college or university, or a post-high school vocational, technical, or creative arts institution or an apprenticeship program during the 2025-2026 school year. To compete for a FofMT scholarship, the student must live in Macomb Township, be a current graduating senior at the high school level, should have a cumulative 3.0 or higher grade point average on a current official transcript, and return a completed application with two letters of recommendation and a personal essay. FofMT Director and Officer family members are not eligible.
For our nineteenth year, FofMT scholarship application forms will be available at the township main office and Parks and Rec Center, our Foundation website at friendsofmacombtownship.org, and at high schools within and around Macomb Township responsible for educating our students. After a careful review of the application documents, a five-person review committee will determine the ten scholarship awardees by early May. A scholarship in each winning student’s name to help with necessary expenses to the institution of his/her choosing will be presented at a Friends of Macomb June awards ceremony.
Created in 2004, Friends of Macomb Township, originally known as the Macomb Township Community Foundation, is a non-profit charitable organization led by caring Macomb Township citizens and community civic and business leaders.  FofMT has derived its financial support from individuals, businesses like Ruehle’s Towing, First Independent Agency, Plante-Moran, and group contributions as well as special fundraising events, bottle and can collection returns, and an annual Pasta Dinner and Raffle.  No public tax dollars are used. FofMT uses its money to support projects like these student scholarships, a wall mural at the Recreation Center, the construction of a Veterans and First Responders Memorial Monument, senior pickleball activities at the township Parks and Recreation Center, and events for the Glen Peters School, Run the Plank, Neighbors United, and the Clinton-Macomb Library North Branch that help make a real difference in the quality of life in Macomb Township. Please contact us if you are interested in knowing more or would like to participate.”
