The Madison Area Democratic Women (MAD Women) of West Tennessee are offering a scholarship named after Sue Shelton White, an influential West Tennessee suffragette and non-traditional college student. The scholarship is intended to support students who embody her legacy.
“Our scholarship is specifically awarded and designed to be awarded to a nontraditional woman student. And that means, a person who is not going to college directly from high school. a person who has taken a break, from their studies for whatever reason and has chosen later in life to go back to college. there aren’t a lot of scholarships available for these types of students, and so we wanted to honor Sue in that way and also be of service, to women in that way,” Debbie Swacker, the treasurer of MAD Women and chairperson of the scholarship committee, said.
