Walmart Canada is thrilled to announce it has awarded a total of $148,000 in bursaries to 74 high school graduating students through its 2023 Walmart Canada Associate Scholarship Program .

The annual program awards $2,000 to exemplary Walmart associates or their dependents who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement to put towards their first year of post-secondary education at an accredited college or university of their choice. Recipients were chosen based on their academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement and financial need.

The Walmart Canada Associate Scholarship Program is one of many ways the retailer is supporting education and helping Walmart associates and their families save money and live better. Dace Charlebois, whose mom works at Distribution Centre 6098 in Cornwall, Ontario, is in the Concurrent Education Program at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, to pursue a career in teaching.

When I first found out that I was awarded the Walmart scholarship, I told my mom first because I knew how anxious she was waiting for news about this award as well as how proud she would be. The cost of pursuing a post-secondary degree will be lessened in part by this scholarship. I am extremely grateful for the Walmart scholarship program.”

Marquise Chevrier, whose mom works at Distribution Centre 6097 in Cornwall, Ontario, is a student at La Cité Collège in Ottawa, Ontario with a goal to become a licensed physiotherapist.

“It took me several times before the news sunk in. Being a scholarship recipient meant that I could breathe, it’s a sigh of relief knowing that I have received a significant amount of money to put towards my post-secondary education.  This scholarship also came at a pivotal moment. I was able to reflect and see that I was deserving of a higher education.  My confidence shot up 100% knowing that giving up was never an option and to push harder for what I truly want in life.”

Kendra Lyttle, whose mom works at the Truro Walmart in Nova Scotia, is currently attending the School ofPerforming Arts at Holland College in Charlottetown, PEI, studying voice in the Music Performance program to pursue a career as a singer and performer.

Shismini Sivakumaran is a general merchandise associate at the Scarborough Walmart and is enrolled in the Paramedicine program at the University of Toronto.

“Receiving the Walmart scholarship means a great deal to me. It relieves some of the financial difficulties that might otherwise prevent me from pursuing a rewarding career as a paramedic.”

Brock Sproule is a produce associate at the Steinbach, Manitoba Walmart and is enrolled in The University of Manitoba’s Aspers School of Business program.

"I was just getting ready to leave my house to go for an evening shift when I received the email from Walmart stating that I was selected for a scholarship. It was a mixture of me not expecting anything because of all of the support I already receive from Walmart and my management team. This is also the first time my store saw one of their own associates win the award, which made it feel surreal. Receiving a scholarship makes a big difference – I just moved out of my hometown and the scholarship lifts some of the weight of paying both tuition and rent.”

A big congratulations to all our 2023 Walmart Canada Scholarship recipients. Wishing you a great first year and may all your career aspirations come to fruition!
