Seniors graduating from Ellwood City High School and Riverside High School are eligible to apply for the Dom Viccari-McDonald’s of Ellwood City Scholarship.
The annual scholarship is named to honor the man who worked tirelessly to improve Ellwood City for all residents, first as a five-term council member and three-term council president, and later as borough manager for more than seven years until his retirement in 2013. Viccari passed away in 2022 at age 89.
New this year: The program has been doubled. Now TWO $1,000 scholarships will be awarded, one to an Ellwood City graduating senior and another to a Riverside graduating senior.
“My father and I decided to enhance the program because we’ve been so impressed with the high school students who work at and patronize our Ellwood City restaurant. As responsible members of the community, it’s our honor to support the next generation,” said McDonald’s Owner/Operator Meghan Sweeney.
Dom Viccari
Open to students planning to attend two- or four-year vocational or academic schools, the Dom Viccari-McDonald’s of Ellwood City Scholarship Fund recognizes academic achievement, leadership ability and community service by local young people.
“Dom Viccari dedicated himself to improving life for all of us,” said Meghan’s father Paul Sweeney, who, along with his daughter, owns and operates several Golden Arches locations in western PA. “His efforts with local government, recreation, environmental conservation and economic vitality have made Ellwood City a better place to live, work and raise families. We’re looking forward to receiving applications from local students who are committed to continuing Dom’s legacy of community service.”
