BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – It takes a special kind of person for a scholarship to be created in their honor. That’s exactly what Brittin Meyer, known as Miss B, was: special to her family, classmates and Century High School (CHS) staff.
The two words that kept coming up when Miss B’s friends and family described her were “spunky” and “love.”
The spunkiness she showed to others, her love for the outdoors and her love for the CHS was infectious.
“Brittin loved. She was everybody’s pal. Our big three things for this scholarship are perseverance, acceptance and love, which a friend recently pointed out spells pal, an acronym for pal. And Brittin was everybody’s pal,” said Brittin’s mom, Amy Meyer.
Though Miss B was non-verbal and had physical limitations due to a rare chromosomal anomaly, she didn’t have to speak to let you know what was on her mind.
Her friends and classmates have only fond memories.
“She’s just the most loving person ever. She will make friends with anyone she meets. It doesn’t matter who or how you meet them. It’s just instant best friends,” said CHS senior Lauren Zent.
“We both enjoyed music so much. She would always be super excited listening to music, listening to orchestra,” said another of Brittin’s friends, CHS senior Lilly Trautman.
Brittin passed away in October of 2024, but the blanket full of pictures, the lanyard with dozens of messages from staff members, and the photos and videos sent to her mom show the legacy that she left behind.
The Miss B scholarship is tied to student participation in the CHS Peer-to-Peer program and a dedication to leadership and inclusion.
“We want to encourage others to get involved. We’re very big on inclusion matters. Because inclusion matters, Brittin made a world of difference and made a ton of friends,” said Meyer.
Brittin’s mom Amy said the best way to describe Miss B is with a phrase written by William Shakespeare, “Though she be but little, she is fierce.”
The $1,000 Miss B Memorial Scholarship is available to any CHS graduating senior who exemplifies strong leadership and commitment to inclusion, as well as having been actively involved in the peer-to-peer program for at least two years.
