HOLY CROSS SCHOOL: Justin Fleetwood, Class of 1991, is the new school president. He holds a B.A. in English education from UNO and a master’s in private school administration from the University of San Francisco. His transition leadership team includes John Serio, school operations; Sheri Salvagio, alumni relations and communications; and Ken Tedesco, special adviser.
ST. MARY’S DOMINICAN HIGH: Dominican senior Kennedi Steele has been awarded a Posse Foundation Scholarship and will be attending Villanova University on a full-tuition leadership scholarship as a member of Posse 6 in fall 2025. At Dominican, Steele is president of the Science National Honor Society, vice president of the Spanish Honor Society, and a member of the National English Society and the National Honor Society.
NEW ORLEANS CENTER FOR CREATIVE ARTS: Three NOCCA students have been selected as recipients of the prestigious Posse Foundation Scholarship. Yanaê Aguiar-Lawrence, a student in the NOCCA Academic Studio studying classical instrumental music, will attend Providence College in Rhode Island. Devin Butler and Sophie Michalewicz, Benjamin Franklin High School students in NOCCA’s visual arts program, will attend Tulane and Villanova universities respectively. The Posse Foundation is a national organization that awards students full-tuition scholarships to college.   
NEW ORLEANS MILITARY AND MARITIME ACADEMY: NOMMA senior Jansen Zayas has been named at Posse Foundation Scholarship winner. Zayas, a cadet second lieutenant, will attend Villanova University and will study biology or biomedical sciences on the scholarship, valued at $300,000. Zayas has served as soccer team captain, student council president and National Honor Society vice president.
MOUNT CARMEL ACADEMY: Seventeen MCA students have been named finalists in the Trust Your Crazy Ideas Challenge, an entrepreneurial competition sponsored by Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans and the Brees Dream Foundation. The finalists worked in teams to develop innovative concepts such as Happi Nest (Ava Perret, Catalina Reichard and Reese Morgan), Sunny Bandz (Sophie Sigur, Sara Barfield and Elise Landry), Fog-Hog (Isabella Aicklen and Colleen D’Aquila), Helping Hooks (Emma Cruikshank, Hannah Christian and Mia Pacaccio), AquaZap (Sofia Giarrusso, Sadie Thieneman and Nadia Powell) and Can Guard (Ella Desormeaux, Sophia Hattier and Abbi Thienman). Philippe Goudail is MCA’s entrepreneurship program moderator.
NOMMA: The New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy will host an open house for prospective students and families in grades 8-11. Families must attend for eligibility to apply. The date is Jan. 23. Presentations begin at 6 p.m. Register at nomma.net/admissions.
DISCOVERY SCHOOLS: Discovery Schools will hold open houses: Kenner Discovery’s lower school (grades pre-K-4) will be 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan. 22, 2025, at its Maine Campus, 2504 Maine Ave, in Metairie.
