The Iowa High School Athletic Director’s Association has recognized a Newton High School senior with a regional award. Alex Garvis has been named the Association’s Student Scholarship winner for the Central District.
To qualify for this scholarship an athlete must be a senior in high school who has participated in two sports for at least two years and earned a varsity letter in each of those two sports. Academically, the student athlete must have achieved a minimum B+ average, be ranked in the top 25% of their class, or have an ACT score of 24 or an SAT score of 1100 in Math and Reading.
Garvis is a co-captain on Newton’s girls basketball team and plays soccer as well.
The Iowa High School Athletic Director’s Association says their scholarship program recognizes the distinguished scholastic, leadership and sportsmanship attributes of high school student-athletes, and the importance of high school athletics in each student’s life.
