Due to the generous support of donors and fundholders, the Derby Community Foundation offers 14 different scholarships to high school seniors. By offering scholarships, the foundation and our fundholders play a vital role in fostering educational opportunities and strengthening communities.
High school seniors can apply for scholarships on our website. All the applications are online and vary in requirements, eligibility and scope. Scholarships are available for students pursuing a four-year degree and those attending a community college or technical school. The deadline to apply for scholarships is March 31, and I encourage all high school seniors to apply.
Annually, the Derby Community Foundation awards over $100,000 in scholarships to local high school students. Scholarships provide financial support to students who may otherwise be unable to afford higher education. By reducing the financial burden, scholarships make education more accessible to a broader range of students.
Scholarships also encourage local talent to pursue their education with the possibility they may later contribute to our local economy. When students are educated and go on to succeed in their careers, they often return to their communities to give back – through local business, leadership, volunteerism and more.
Finally, offering scholarships encourages residents and organizations to invest in the future of their community. This can inspire a culture of giving and build community pride. The Derby Community Foundation believes scholarships are an investment in both individual futures and the long-term viability of the community.
