GARDEN CITY, NY — A pair of high school students from Garden City have earned National Merit Scholarships.
Julia Cherchever and James Nagler, of Garden City High School, each won the $2,500 scholarship.
Cherchever’s likely career choice is biomedicine, while Nagler is looking at a career in engineering.
This is the second round of this year’s scholarship announcements.
Each semifinalist was asked to complete a detailed scholarship application, which included writing an essay and providing information about extracurricular activities, awards, and leadership positions. Semifinalists also had to have an outstanding academic record, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, and earn SAT or ACT scores that confirmed their qualifying test performance.
