Retired Educators in Montgomery County are seeking to reward college-bound students who are interested in a career in public school education.
The Montgomery County Retired Educators Association is offering at least one scholarship to a student who is graduating this spring from one of the county’s four high schools. The scholarship is aimed at graduates who are attending college to pursue a degree in education.
Information and scholarship applications will be distributed to guidance counselors in February and must be submitted by March 31, according to a news release from the association.
At least one $1,000 scholarship is typically awarded, and in some years, more than one applicant is offered a scholarship.
Selection is based on financial need, grades, extra-curricular achievements and teacher/community recommendations. In addition, each application includes an essay and a description of the applicant’s school and community activities, service and achievements, which are also considered by the committee.
The organization has presented one or more scholarships per year since at least 2004.
