One of our Bayou Region’s leading internet service providers is continuing to give back to our area, announcing the expansion of their academic scholarship, which is set to exceed $1 million total in awards this year.
REV announced the opening and expansion of the local telecommunications provider’s academic scholarship application for graduating high school seniors.
Eligible seniors who live in REV’s service regions are encouraged to apply for the scholarship online before the March 26 deadline.
The REV scholarship program provides students with financial assistance to cover college expenses such as tuition, room and board, books and more throughout their years of study – lessening the financial burden and barriers encountered during college.
Josh Descant, REV’s CEO, said the expansion of the scholarship program marks a bright day for REV.
“As our company celebrates 90 years of service, we are excited to expand the scholarship program this year to all of our service regions, recognizing more students for their academic achievements,” said Descant. “REV remains committed to supporting education in the communities we serve and investing in the next generation of leaders – especially through this generations-spanning scholarship program.”
The REV academic scholarship program was founded in 1984 in the provider’s Bayou Region. Since its inception, it has awarded 237 scholarships totaling $970,000. This year, that total will cross the $1 million milestone, marking the company’s 90-year celebration and continued dedication to education.
“The students we meet every year never cease to amaze members of our selection committee – moving our team with their impressive dedication to academic achievement, extra-curricular activities and community involvement,” said Peter Louviere, REV’s CFO. “Further, it’s an incredible joy when we get the chance to witness many of these students returning home and investing back into their local communities after college graduation.”
Eligibility, criteria and considerations for REV’s scholarship program include being a current REV residential customer in good standing, residing in a REV service area, cumulative GPA and ACT scores, financial need, demonstrated leadership and community involvement.
Candidates will also submit an essay as part of their application process.
