The Richland County Foundation has approved over $600,000 in grants to support local nonprofit groups. According to a press release, the Foundation’s Board of Trustees allocated $602,225 during its December meeting to various projects to address community needs.
The Domestic Violence Shelter received funding for its Safe Haven for Kids program, which assists children and teens who are survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. The shelter has faced financial problems due to cuts in federal and state funding, making this grant crucial for operations.
The Salvation Army was awarded a grant for its Emergency Social Services program. This program helps households struggling with poverty by providing services such as a soup kitchen, food pantry, and financial help for utilities. The funds will be directed toward utility and food assistance, aiming to support self-sufficiency among vulnerable populations.
Raemelton Therapeutic Equestrian Center also received a grant to offer scholarships for equine-based therapies. These therapies are designed for individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities, helping them improve motor skills and communication abilities while engaging their muscles.
The Richland County Historical Society was also given funds to transform a building at 64 Surrey Road into a tiled plaza park. The Oak Hill Terrace project will serve as a venue for community events and gatherings, enhancing the area’s cultural and social offerings.
