The Rusk County Groundwater Conservation District (RCGCD) has created a new and exciting scholarship opportunity for area graduates.
In Oct. 2024, the RCGCD board voted to create a scholarship program for graduating seniors residing in the district, which encompasses Rusk County. Board members have since created policies for the distribution of these funds and finalized the process at the group’s January board meeting.
“It is part of our education and outreach to the people within our district,” said Groundwater District General Manager, David Miley.
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be a graduating senior of a Rusk County school. As part of the application process, students will be required to answer a short essay-type question which will revolve around groundwater.
“Our hope is educating people on the importance of groundwater,” said Miley of the group’s essay requirement. “We believe that this will help to remind people of the importance of groundwater while also helping someone to further their education in which ever field they choose.”
This $1,000 scholarship can be used to attend any public or private college or university or vocational school. Information on the availability of the scholarship will be disseminated to area schools.
Students seeking scholarship opportunities can find the application under the forms tab of the Rusk County Groundwater Conservation District’s website at rcgcd.org
All Applications can be submitted to Rusk County Groundwater Conservation District at generalmanager@rcgcd.org or mailed to PO Box 97 Henderson, TX 75653. Mailed applications must be postmarked by the March 18 due date. Applications can also be hand delivered to the RCGCD office at 500 N. High St. Henderson TX, 75652.
