Press release from City of Alachua
ALACHUA, Fla. – The City of Alachua Commission recognized Cayden Parker, a local Santa Fe High School senior, at the Regular City Commission meeting on Monday, February 24. Parker received the prestigious Edna M. Hart Keeper of the Dream Award and the inaugural Alumni Scholarship, which afforded him more than $15,000 toward furthering his academic career.
Surrounded by family, friends, and fellow Alachua citizens, Parker was invited to the podium to speak during the meeting. “I realize that my success is a product of my community,” Parker said. “I also want to thank my mother and my grandfather.”
This recognition comes just one week before the City of Alachua’s Education Task Force (ETF) convenes for a community workshop, crafting an updated strategic plan for how the ETF will continue to support local education from a grassroots level.
“We formed the Education Task Force to come alongside our community schools to help improve their performance,” said David Wisener, City of Alachua’s Economic Development Manager. “Education has been a top priority of our City officials for years.”
In fact, fostering an environment of support for City of Alachua schools is named as a strategic initiative in the City’s strategic plan. This plan is revisited by City officials each year, and this education-related initiative is continually kept as a priority.
