As the college football offseason rolls on, scholarship counts continue to fluctuate. From December to now, the amount of transfer portal additions, transfers out, player retirements, draft declarations, and graduation confirmations have been dizzying. For Michigan State, this offseason has been particularly busy as new head coach Jonathan Smith is turning over the roster and trying to field a competitive squad in year one.
To that point, I have created a Google Sheet tracking MSU’s running scholarship list. It will be updated at the end of each day to reflect changes to the roster. There is a slight chance that it’s off by one or two spots, given behind-the-scenes developments like “NIL-funded scholarships” that free up an official scholarship. Regardless, this should give fans a decent picture of how much room the Spartans have at a given time.

The above sheet is broken down by high school class, while an asterisk denotes kids that transferred in instead of signing with MSU as recruits. The running total for free scholarships can be found at the bottom of the list. Departures and their method of leaving have been listed to the right of the current scholarship list.
Moreover, to see a chronological view of who has departed or arrived at MSU via the transfer portal, Stephen Brooks’ portal tracker article is a nice tool. As the offseason rolls on, Spartan Tailgate will continue to keep fans updated on any recruitments, offers, visits, and commitments.
