WATERBURY, Conn. (WFSB) – A young football player’s legacy will live on in a way that will help other student athletes succeed.
22-year-old Jordan Robinson was tragically shot and killed in late 2023.
“People would tell me, ‘Oh, Jordan would see me at the bus stop and he would give me a ride.’ He was always going out of his way to help people. I think that’s what made Jordan happy, helping others,” said Stacey Robinson, Jordan’s mom.
Jordan Robinson was a star athlete. His mom loves to show off his trophies and his jerseys.
He played football at Cheshire Academy and at the University of New Haven.
In December of 2023 he was shot and killed in Waterbury, his hometown.
What this community has missed most since he passed is his friendship and compassion for others, which his family still hears stories about.
“He came and he asked me if I was Jordan’s mom. I said yes and he just started crying. He told me that he used to have a really hard time in school,” Stacey said. “Jordan always made him feel comfortable.”
“I had another individual come forward and actually say that Jordan taught her how to pray. Which was profound, it’s just like, in his 22 years of living, how did he touch so many people’s lives?” asked Melissa Thompson, Jordan’s Aunt.
Jordan also loved learning. He wouldn’t miss a day of school.
Two months ago the Jordan Isaiah Robinson Legacy Foundation offered their first $1,000 college scholarship to a student at Cheshire Academy.
“It was really a good feeling on that day,” said Eva Curry, Jordan’s grandmother.
They’re now offering a second scholarship for parishioners at Christ CME Church in Waterbury where Jordan attended.
“It helps me to know that I’m doing something in his honor, in his name that he would love,” Stacey said.
Students who are interested in applying must have at least 2.5 GPA, be a member of a sports team, present a financial need, and show a commitment to helping others.
