KALISPELL — For the third year in a row, Selah Natural Medicine of Kalispell will be offering the Selah Natural Medicine Halverson Family Montana Girls Wrestling Scholarship. Up to a $1,000 in scholarship is being offered to a senior-year girl wrestler in Montana, with applications due April 20.
The scholarship was created in response to the growth of girls wrestling in the Treasure State. According to a press release, a goal in offering the scholarship is to encourage young athletes in pursuing a college education and competing at one of the many women’s programs. The Halverson family has deep roots in the state’s wrestling community dating to the 1970s with athletes wrestling at both the high school and university level the press release detailed.
A girls wrestler doesn’t need to be a state champion or on the honor roll to apply, though academic, athletic and a student’s character are considered.
Applicants must provide three letters of recommendation — one from the school’s wrestling coach, one from a faculty member and the other from an athlete who has been a teammate — along with an updated transcript and complete all other application questions in order to be considered.
