Central Catholic senior Jahaun Knox was honored as a scholarship recipient at the 33rd Annual MLK Scholarship Breakfast on January 18.  The 2025 Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship award was presented by the Alpha Xi Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. in recognition of high scholarship achievement and exemplary leadership.  Dr. King was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, and each year the fraternity gives out scholarships to young men who are pursuing higher education.  The award includes an academic scholarship in the amount of $1,300.

At Central Catholic, Jahaun is a Summa Cum Laude member of the honor roll and he is an Irish Ambassador, part of campus ministry, and a member of the Spanish Club.  He has volunteered as a tutor for the CCHS Summer Success program.  Outside of school, he works as a host trainer at Texas Roadhouse.  Jahaun is the youngest of 4 siblings, and the son of Octavia Jones and John Knox.

“Receiving this scholarship means that I was recognized as the hardworking individual that I know I am, and I am so blessed and grateful to have been chosen out of many applicants to receive something so rewarding and honorable,” Jahaun said.  “Martin Luther King, Jr. inspires me by pushing me to try my hardest, and to really put my all into my work.  I can use this scholarship to continue his legacy by giving back to my community, and hopefully be able to invest in the MLK scholarship so that the next generation will have the same opportunity as I have.”

“Jahaun is a friendly, respectful, and hardworking student who always brings positivity into the classroom,” said Maria MacDonald, CCHS Spanish teacher.  “He never complains about academic challenges and always rises to the occasion.  Beyond academics, Jahaun is deeply involved in school activities and proudly displays his school spirit.  It has been an absolute pleasure to have him as a student and a member of the Spanish Club over the past couple of years.”

Jahaun plans to attend the University of Toledo to major in business, and he aspires to be a real estate agent.
