Several scholarships are available for local students.
Devan Galiardo with the Community Foundation of Grundy County was in our studios on Tuesday.
“We have two scholarships right now that are for Grundy Area Vocational Center students, is the first tier of who the donors would like to provide scholarship to. Grabowski Grobowski Olsen Automotive Scholarship Memorial scholarship…set up by that family. It is for as it states a GAVC student who is going into automotive so this really body work mechanic, anything really automotive related, that one is most of ours that we have are a thousand dollars and that one is as well. The second one for GAVC students is the Pete Muffler scholarship, for Fire Science. So any student going into a career in fire science and again this could be going to school and Junior College.”
She also explained details of another scholarship.
“So, we also have the Jacob Perry Memorial Scholarship and that is for Morris High School graduating seniors. This one is, has a little bit broader of a scope of who could apply. So if you or you know someone who is going to school for nursing or mental health related career, so whether that’s a social worker psychiatry counseling, or even a nursing, degree. This one again is a memorial scholarship. They were kind of encompassing everything that Jacob really was interested in. They also will accept applications for anyone going into any degree that played basketball in high school.  So boys or girls basketball.”
Galiardo also said Seneca High School and the Minooka Women’s Club each have a scholarship available.
“We also have a scholarship for Seneca High School students as well as the McCormick Hill scholarship. It is also a pretty broad scholarship. The top tier that they would look for are teachers, going into education of some sort and also going into a trade So those are the two main things. This isn’t a new scholarship but it’s going to be on our website for the first time – the Minooka Women’s Club has a scholarship that they have for Minooka students and theirs is very broad. They welcome students to apply that are going to school and they have a couple questions that they ask essay questions about, service organizations…and how the student can see themselves serving in a organization that serves the community in.”
