Shelton State Community College has opened applications for scholarships for students pursuing careers in non-traditional fields of study. Non-traditional careers are occupations in which less than 25% of a workforce are either male or female.
“So the nontraditional scholarship is set aside funds to encourage nontraditional gender in those enrollments, so if women want to go in automotive or welding or a male would like to go into child development or business office, we have funds set aside to encourage that enrollment,” said Grant Cockrell, Shelton’s Associate Dean of Technical Services.
The scholarship is called the Perkins Scholarship and numerous scholarships will be awarded. The application deadline is Apr. 19 and all affected students are urged to apply.
