The press conference was filled with hope and prayer, as Simpson University's second-year football team announced that they will join a conference next season in 2025.
The Red Hawks will be the newest members of the Frontier Conference — making them the 14th team to join this NAIA league. Teams across the country will compete in the fall. They will start with the preseason non-conference games, then have two crossover games between East and West Schools, and six consecutive games to decide who will make it to the postseason.
Head coach of Simpson University's Football team, Shawn Daniel says this is a major step in the right direction.
Daniel says that being in the Frontier Conference gives the Red Hawks the opportunity to offer football scholarships, something he believes will strengthen the fledging program. New facilities like a weight room are being added to the Redding Campus along with a new cheerleading team.
The Simpson Athletic Department has seen recent renovations and additions to both academic and athletic areas. In sports alone, the University has seen 20% growth in sports by August of this year, according to Simpson University.
The school installed a new weight room, gym floor, baseball field, and beach volleyball team. In academics, Simpson has announced the building of their new 'groundbreaking' Business, Engineering, and Technology building.
Scott Crawford, the commissioner for the Frontier Conference says that Simpson football will likely enjoy having a conference schedule, rather than trying to find every single game on their own. Crawford says there are other benefits teams can receive from being in the Frontier Conference.
The RedHawks play their season opener on August 31 at the College of Idaho at 7 p.m.
