New diploma requirements will affect every high school in the state. The Class of 2029 will be the first to graduate under the new system.
Indiana’s high school work study program opened applications for Career Scholarship Accounts March 1. The CSA program provides $5,000 to 10th through 12th grade students to pursue internships, apprenticeships and applied learning experiences, according to a press release from the State Treasurer Office.
“CSAs give students real educational opportunities in today’s job market. It also shows that Indiana is leading the way in giving parents and their children real choices for their future,” said State Treasurer Daniel Elliott.
Soon work based learning will be a part of Indiana high school curriculum with the new diploma requirements adopted last December, according to previous Exponent reporting. Students will participate in work-study opportunities similar to those available under the CSA program.
The Class of 2029, current eighth graders, would be the first to graduate under these new requirements. Until then, high school work-based study is expected to be facilitated under the CSA program.
