DENISON, Texas (KXII) – Goats, pigs, and young wranglers steal the Texoma Exposition and Livestock Show, and in return, they’re giving back to the students that make it all possible.
“This year, TELS is going to present 8 scholarships, two of those being from the TELS group,” said TELS President Hoyt Ivey. “There are six other [scholarships] from different merchants throughout the the county.”
Along with three more scholarships from the People Who Care (PWC) organization, they will give out a total 11 of scholarships to pave the way for hard-working high school seniors to pursue their dreams.
“They range usually anywhere from $250 to $1,000,” said Ivey. “These kids, just they they eat that up, they will apply for multiple scholarships throughout the year. Some, they’ll get, some, they won’t. So anything they get goes toward that education.”
The applicants have high aspirations for their future – and winning the scholarships would help with that.
“I will be the first one to attend college in my family,” said Isabella Noe, Van Alstyne High School student. “I will be attending a four-year university and I will be majoring in animal science. I want to further my education so I can work in this industry because I love it so much.”
“I want to be an animal geneticist,” said Lauren Malone, Van Alstyne High School student. “I can stay in the agricultural world with livestock, and so this money, the money would help me achieve that.”
“I’m studying [agriculture] communications and journalism,” said Howe High School student Camryn Craddock. “[I’m] really excited about that. I would be really excited to have a scholarship because it makes college less expensive, but it also shows that my hard work is paid off in my high school career.”
The 11 recipients will be announced at Friday’s lunch and auction sale to wrap up the Texoma Exposition and Livestock Show.
