The Wharf announced Monday that Dianna Moore — a senior at Gulf Shores High School — was awarded The Wharf Scholarship in the amount of $10,000.

“The Wharf is proud to continue our scholarship program for the fourth year,” said Kristen Hammack, management team leader, The Wharf. “Dianna exemplified the characteristics of an ‘exceptional student,’ and we are proud to celebrate her accomplishments and involvement. Each of the applicants were standout students and have certainly contributed to the community while also prioritizing their studies. The Wharf believes in supporting our future leaders and commends the Class of 2024 for their achievements.”
Moore has maintained a 4.0 grade point average, scored a 31 on her ACT and exceled in athletics as part of the Gulf Shores High School Volleyball Team. Gulf Shores City Schools Academics and CTE Director, Jessica Sampley, said “Dianna is a natural leader, the perfect ambassador for our school system and community, and a brilliant and well-spoken young woman. There is no doubt in my mind that she is someone who will make a positive, major impact on the world around her, and she is fully committed to furthering her education and learning and helping others along the way”.
Some other notable undertakings and successes include Friends of Exceptional Students member, Peer Helpers member, Sustainability Academy member, volunteering with Coastal Cleanup, Prodisee Pantry, Shrimp Festival and many other organizations. Her passion for environmental preservation guided multiple projects for the community including the creation of a pollinator garden with an irrigation system for Gulf Shores Elementary School, Oyster Restoration project, Little Lagoon Water Quality testing and Dune Restoration projects. Moore has combined her love of the environment and her heart for special needs children to design and build a sensory wall at Gulf Shores Middle School for special needs students. She has also worked multiple years at local food establishments and serves as a tutor at Gulf Shores Middle School.
Moore was selected among 85+ other applicants vying for the award that was announced in January as part of a The Wharf’s charity giving campaign named, “The Wharf’s Anchor Campaign: #AnchorForCommunity.” High school seniors across Baldwin County were eligible to receive the award that was evaluated based on community involvement, academic achievement and their response to a written essay.
Moore plans to attend the University of West Florida and will be perusing a degree in Biomedical Sciences.
In addition to the $10,000 first-place scholarship, a runner-up award of $500 was given to Riley Mellett, Daphne High School senior.
Applications for The Wharf’s 2025 Scholarship will open in January 2025. For more information on The Wharf or The Wharf’s Anchor Campaign, please visit alwharf.com.
