BROOKLYN — TWO BROOKLYN HIGH school tennis players won college scholarships last week at the 36th annual New York Junior Tennis & Learning Mayor Dinkins Cup tournament, a free week-long competition for 3rd through 12th graders from schools across all five boroughs. Autumn Clarke and James Walsh won the Louis Marx Jr. Educational Scholarship, while 11 other students were also awarded at the tournament’s closing ceremony on Sunday. 550 students participated in this year’s competition.
Last year’s Dinkins Cup saw eight students, including two Brooklynites, awarded from an $86,000 scholarship prize pool.

New York City’s most populous borough, Brooklyn, is home to nearly 2.6 million residents. If Brooklyn were an independent city it would be the fourth largest city in the United States. While Brooklyn has become the epitome of ‘cool and hip’ in recent years, for those that were born here, raised families here and improved communities over the years, Brooklyn has never been ‘uncool’.
