Cecilia Geyer is a senior at Haverhill High School where she is enrolled in the CTE Honors Program for Biomedical Science.
She is routinely on the HHS Honor Roll, typically in the top tier. (https://hhs.haverhill-ps.org/2023-2024-hhs-honor-roll-term-4/).
Cecilia works as a lifeguard and swim instructor at the Andover YMCA.  In January she will begin an internship at Lawrence General Hospital. She has been accepted at several colleges, and is awaiting responses from several others.  Right now she is leaning toward Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI where she plans to study medicine and theology.
Cecilia has been an active member of Girl Scouts for 13+ years.  She had earned her Girl Scout: Bronze Award (2018), Silver Award (2021) and is currently wrapping up her Gold Award project (focusing on teen engagement with the Haverhill Public Library).  The Gold Award is the highest award she can earn in Girl Scouts (but she hasn’t officially earned it yet).
She was also selected to serve as a delegate to the Girl Scout National Conference in 2023 (kind of the equivalent of congress for GS).
She is a member of the: National Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society, and the Science Honor Society.
Cecilia is a member of her church youth group for 7 years, including a girls reading group.  As part of the GS troop, she has helped out with multiple projects for the clients of Emmaus House and their food pantry.  She also served as a Junior Counselor at Camp Luther, located in Three Lakes Wisconsin.
In her spare time, Cecilia is an enthusiastic reader, enjoys participating and volunteering with a local drama school. She also sings, plays guitar, kalimba, ukulele, and piano.   Other interests include baking,  painting , knitting and numerous other artistic pursuits.
The Valley Patriot Newspaper holds an annual Charity BASH Scholarship and Award Night to honor police officers, firefighters, veterans, and members of the community who go above and beyond to help those in need.
This year’s event will be held on March 28th at the Lawrence Elks Club on Andover Street.
Last year the newspaper’s charity committee raised more than $58,100 for eight local high school students from; Lawrence High School, North Andover, The Greater  Lawrence Technical School, Whittier Regional Tech, Haverhill High School, Salem, N.H. High and Methuen High School.
Sponsors from the business community help pay for the expenses of running the event so that no overhead costs come from scholarship donations.
Scholarship money is raised from mailings to the business community and an online scholarship drive on publisher Tom Duggan’s Facebook Page as well as the Valley Patriot’s Facebook Page.
Donors can contribute to whichever student they want to received the funds and 100% of ever dollar donated goes directly to the students.
Donations received that are not specified for a particular student or school will be added to the total of whichever student has the least amount of scholarship donations at the time of the contribution.
