Shannon Weir
Weir was sponsored by her grandmother, Mary Krueger, a member of Club Ever Ready, for the scholarship. This fall, she will be attending UW-Platteville as a music education major.
According to the release, Weir was a member of National Honor Society, Key Club, University singers, Symphony Band and B.L.I.N.D (Building Lasting Impressions that Never Die), as well as a section leader in band, while in high school.
“She would like to teach primary or secondary music,” said the release. “Music has been her passion for years. Her family supports education and that women can do anything they want to achieve through education and hard work.”
Annabelle Gonnering
Gonnering was sponsored by her grandmother, Kathy Breuer, a member of Twisted Sisters Club, for the scholarship.
She will be attending Concordia University, with plans to pursue a career in accounting, this fall.
According to the release, Gonnering was a member of Key Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and National Honor Society in high school.
“She volunteers at local nonprofits and in her Church ministries,” said the release.
“In addition, Annabelle especially enjoys cross country and track and was the captain of her team two years while in high school.”
The WCAHCE scholarships are awarded annually to members in good standing, or their extended family, who are going to an accredited university or vocational school after graduating high school or re-entering college. According to the release, scholarship winners are chosen by the scholarship committee based on scholastic ability, leadership abilities, financial need, and character of the applicant.
“Both winners spoke about the importance of family and how supporting each other through accurate communication would make for a healthier society,” said the release.
