The crowns for the Miss West Texas Fair & Rodeo Queen Scholarship Contest will not be awarded this September.
West Texas Fair & Rodeo officials announced in a press release Friday they will no longer offer the queen scholarship contest after hosting the event for several years.
In the statement, the West Texas Fair & Rodeo recognized the contest’s long-running history and expressed pride in those awarded scholarships and who have represented the fair with their queen titles.
“After careful thought and much deliberation, the West Texas Fair & Rodeo has decided to no longer offer the Miss West Texas Fair & Rodeo Queen Scholarship Contest,” according to the press release. “The West Texas Fair & Rodeo will continue to serve the organization’s mission by providing scholarships for Texas youth through other avenues of participation.”
The West Texas Fair & Rodeo further expressed their gratitude to titleholders, committee members, pageant judges and sponsors, and contestant families for helping with the contest and providing learning opportunities for the participants.
The cancellation of the contest was “due to lack of interest and contestants,” according to a reply by West Texas Fair & Rodeo on their Facebook post.
