WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield High School 12th grader Garrett Gao has advanced as a finalist in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program, having met academic and other standards to become eligible for scholarships.
The selection of 7,100 Merit Scholarship winners from the group of more than 15,000 finalists nationwide is now in progress with scholarship winners and National Merit Scholars to be announced over the next few months.
Fifteen WHS students were honored by the National College Board Recognition Program, which recognizes strong academic performances of students who belong to communities historically underrepresented on college campuses.
This non-scholarship program celebrates high-achieving students of African American, Hispanic, and Indigenous descent, as well as those from rural and small towns and first-generation college families.
