The late Mary L. Marshall Sidorsky, M.D., has left a $1.5 million gift through her estate to the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. The funding will be used to support scholarships for medical students.
“Dr. Sidorsky was a leading pioneer in her field. We will always be grateful for the impact made on our students through her teaching and her legacy will continue at Wright State through this scholarship,” said Gregory Toussaint, M.D., interim dean of the Boonshoft School of Medicine.
Sidorsky was the second woman to complete a residency in pathology at the University of Michigan.
In the early years of Wright State University’s School of Medicine, she taught the pathology of the gastrointestinal tract to medical students as a volunteer faculty member.
In 1990, she retired from the practice of anatomic and clinical pathology at Miami Valley Hospital. She and her late husband, Abraham Sidorsky, spent their retirement in San Antonio, where they enjoyed their mutual interests in ballroom dancing and gardening.
The Mary L. Marshall, M.D., Scholarship will be awarded to Wright State medical students in good academic standing who are disadvantaged or have need, as determined by the Boonshoft School of Medicine’s Office of Financial Aid or Admissions.
“Dr. Sidorsky’s estate gift will fund this scholarship for generations of medical students to come,” said Wright State University President Sue Edwards, Ph.D. “Her life and career will serve as an inspiration to our students. Dr. Sidorsky’s generosity will allow us to continue graduating highly trained medical professionals who will serve countless patients throughout our region, state and nation.”
