Olivia Breen hasn’t even started 8th grade, but the girl from South Thomaston already has an offer to play basketball for Boston College.
The school, which is part of the Atlantic Coast Conference, one of the Power Five conferences, reached out to the Oceanside star after a recent tournament.
“Really liked my game. She told me how it would fit Boston College really well and she was like, ‘I really like the way you play. I like the way you move. I like the way you run. So we’re offering you a scholarship to Boston College’ and I was just, like, so happy. And I was like, Oh, my God, Really?” said Breen.
Breen is 6 feet 2 inches tall with an exceptional skill set and is already playing on a national circuit, so it is perhaps not surprising she is attracting some attention. But she was not expected to get offered a scholarship in one of the premiere leagues before even starting high school.
She doesn’t need to look far for advice, however. Her older sister, Bailey, is a senior at Oceanside and has 22 scholarship offers, receiving her first one as a freshman, before playing her first game that season.
“I’ve been thorough in how to handle it and keep her out of situations that I’ve I’ve been in before to just avoid things like that. But she definitely, it’s a very exciting time for her. And she works hard and she deserves it,” said Bailey.
When Olivia plays for her club team in Massachusetts, she already plays with freshmen and sophomores and it is probably safe to bet that she will have many more big offers coming her way.
