BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) -For more than thirty years the Community Foundation of the Virginias has been giving out scholarships to students in Tazewell, Mercer, Monroe and Bland counties who want to continue their education.
This year the foundation gave more than $300,000 in scholarships to young adults pursuing college, technical school and even enrolling in the military academy.
The foundation’s vice president tells us how important these scholarships are and how thankful they are to be able to provide this resource to the public.
He adds that these students are the ones that return to the area and help it continue to prosper.
“The scholarships we have provided, we have been able to provide, has helped so many people. We have teachers in this area because of being able to go to Concord, Bluefield State, Bluefield University, West Virginia, and so forth. We have several physicians that have come through the high schools in this area that have been helped with this,” said Gene Bailey.
The community foundation of the Virginias adds that it appreciates all the help they receive for this scholarship program.
