VESTAL (WBNG) — U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will be joining elected officials and educators at Binghamton University to speak to students about a scholarship program she created.
The “Cyber Service Academy Scholarship Program” offers students the opportunity to commit to either the Department of Defense (DoD) or the Intelligence Community (IC) as a civilian employee for one year. For each year of commitment, students will receive full tuition coverage.
According to Senator Gillibrand, the program aims to address the 30,000 unfilled cybersecurity positions within the DoD. It also plans to strengthen national security by developing a skilled workforce to meet the growing demands of cyber defense.
Students currently in their junior year of a four-year program or their second year of an associate degree program are eligible to apply. Binghamton University is one of 24 New York schools designated as National Centers of Academic Excellence in cybersecurity, making it eligible to host students through the program.
Among Senator Gillibrand, there will be other speakers/attendees including Senator Lea Webb, County Executive Jason Garnar, Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger and Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo.
