A+ Schools Scholarship Program was discussed at Columbia Public Schools’ policy meeting Monday evening.
The board members discussed recommend changes, which will be presented to the Columbia School Board on Dec. 9.
However, there will be a slight name change. The program is currently called the A+ Schools Scholarship program. The new name would be the A+ Scholarship program.
Documents that have the former name will be updated, including the application and paperwork describing the program.
Along with the name change, there will be a minor cleanup to the wording in the description of the program.

CPS board member Paul Harper said they were “just making it so it’s clean in the same way all of our policies are.”
The biggest change the committee is recommending involves the appeal process. For the last seven months, committee members have worked on the appeal process to make it easier to read.
Included in this is the process for students who might lose their scholarship due to suspensions lasting more than 10 days.
“We’re making it so you don’t have to go through that process if you’re suspended more than ten days. It automatically jumps up. So were reducing the number steps but we’re also making it cleaner for parents and caregivers to understand exactly how to appeal suspension” Harper said.
