An organization helping to send foster kids to college is hosting a fundraising dinner in Kalamazoo.
The Fostering Futures Scholarship Trust Fund provides scholarships to students who have experienced foster care after the age of 13.
A fundraising dinner for the trust fund will be held April 19 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Kalamazoo.
Reservations for the event are $100 per person, or $800 for a table of eight.
All proceeds from the event, from ticket sales and sponsorships to raffle items, will be awarded as scholarships to former foster youth enrolled at Michigan colleges and universities, according to organizers.
In addition to dinner, attendees can meet scholarship recipients, and network with others working to make higher education a reality for youth.
Raffle prizes and other activities are also planned for the evening.
According to the state of Michigan, 70% of teens nationally who emancipated from foster care want to attend college, but fewer than 10% who graduate high school enroll in college.
The Fostering Futures Scholarship Trust Fund is housed within the Michigan Department of Treasury, and is a Section 170(c) nonprofit organization.
More information, including dinner reservations and how to donate, can be found on their website here.
