Eight Shelby Valley High School seniors were awarded a total of $15,500 scholarships through the Woodrow and Evelyn Johnson Fund, a fund advised by the Pikeville Community Foundation, and held at the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky.
Eight Shelby Valley High School seniors were awarded a total of $15,500 scholarships through the Woodrow and Evelyn Johnson Fund, a fund advised by the Pikeville Community Foundation, and held at the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky.
The Pikeville Community Foundation awarded scholarships totaling $15,500 to Shelby Valley High School seniors during their awards ceremony on May 1, 2024.
The scholarships were funded by the Woodrow and Evelyn Johnson fund, a fund advised by the Pikeville Community Foundation, and held at the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky.
At the award ceremony, Pat McNamee, Pikeville Community Foundation chair, and Rick Newsom, Pikeville Community Foundation board member, presented the scholarships to eight students:
• Erin Lucas — $4,000
• Elaina Tackett — $3,000
• Caden Howell — $2,000
• Russell Osborne — $2,000
• Zoee Johnson — $1,500
• Hailey Huffman — $1,000
• Jace Compton — $1,000
• Jonathan Burke — $1,000
“It is an honor to support these well-deserving high school seniors as they further their education,” McNamee said.
According to a statement from the PCF, the Woodrow and Evelyn Johnson fund was set up by Linda Johnson Templeton with the hope to support graduating students from Shelby Valley High School and make a meaningful difference in their lives.
The scholarships are renewable for up to four years while pursuing a post-secondary degree, remaining in good standing, and maintaining a specific GPA.
The Pikeville Community Foundation, the statement said, is an affiliate of the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky — an accredited community foundation serving Southeast Kentucky.
Pikeville Community Foundation board members include Pat McNamee (chair), Kathy Atkins (secretary), Fadi Al Akhrass, MD, Helena Jackson, Rick Newsom, Brad Slone, Helena Jackson and Gerrie Clark.
