Jun. 11—Two Susquehanna University students have received scholarships enabling them to study abroad.
Allison Talero and MacKenzi Salinas-Trejo were awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, a competitive grant program that provides up to $5,000 for study-abroad or internship program costs.
A biology — secondary education major from Bangor, Talero will study at Griffith University in Gold Coast, Australia.
Salinas-Trejo, a luxury brand marketing and management major from York, will study in Italy.
"I wanted to pursue the Gilman Award because I knew it would allow me to make the most out of my study-abroad experience," said Talero, who plans a career as a high school biology teacher.
Twenty-five percent of Gilman applicants across the country receive a scholarship. More than 40 Susquehanna University students have received the scholarship since 2015.
