HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) – Copper Shores Community Health Foundation (CCHF) awarded 18 scholarships to students at 10 local schools in the Copper Country on Wednesday.
This year’s awards include a new scholarship worth up to $20,000 that was awarded to graduating seniors, Career Technical Education (CTE) scholarships in partnership with Keweenaw Economic Development Alliances, six scholarships funded by Joseph Kirkish and two by the McIntyre family.
Combined, the scholarships total up to $111,000 in financial support for local students.
The Copper Shores Community Health Foundation Scholarship is a $5,000 scholarship renewable for up to four years, totaling as much $20,000 in financial award per student. The recipients are:
The Copper Shores Community Health Foundation/KEDA Career Tech Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship. These students are enrolled in a certificate program or an associate degree in a skilled trade or career technical education program:
Joseph Kirkish Educational Scholarship is a $2,500 award. Copper Shores said its intention is that recipients use the scholarship to help pay for education costs at a post-secondary school of their choosing:
The Joseph Kirkish Congregational Scholarship includes a $2,500 award. These students are congregation members of St. Ignatius Loyola and/or St. Albert the Great Churches, upon request of Kirkish:
The Joseph Kirkish Phi Kappa Tau Scholarship is $2,500. This scholarship is for two eligible Brothers of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity at Michigan Technological University, an organization that Kirkish joined during his time in school:
The McIntyre Family Educational Scholarship is $2,000. The McIntyre Family’s intention is that recipients, graduating seniors from Ontonagon High School, use the scholarship to help pay for education costs at a post-secondary school of their choosing:
