BOSTON – Groom Construction has awarded three scholarships to exceptional, local high school students pursuing careers in construction and construction related fields.
Groom Construction, Co., Inc. recently awarded their annual Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Scholarship to Lindzy Silva from Gloucester, MA and the Construction Management Scholarships to Alexander Wettengel from Salem, MA and Mayrin Rodriguez Barrera from Lynn, MA. Lindzy and Alexander are recent graduates of Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School, while Mayrin is a recent graduate of Lynn Vocational Technical Institute.
Lindzy Silva will be continuing her education in the Night Haws program to work towards her schooling hours for her Journeyman’s Electrical License. Lindzy would like to be one of the first women-owned and operated electrical companies on the North Shore. She would love to encourage more women to know they are powerful and can excel in a male dominated industry.
Alexander Wettengel will be attending UMass Amherst in the fall, studying Civil Engineering. Alex has always enjoyed working with his hands and has always been interested in different forms of infrastructure and how they operate. His experience at Essex Tech has given him an understanding of how construction can impact the lives of people in the community. Alex aspires to design and construct vital infrastructures, fostering community well-being. He is looking forward to a fulfilling career in Construction Management.
Mayrin Rodriguez Barrera will be attending Wentworth Institute, studying Architecture. Since Mayrin was little, she knew she always wanted to do something in the design field that will help the public. She is looking forward to the day she can see one of her designs become reality. Mayrin also wants to motivate women to never give up and to never let anyone tell them they can’t do something. Mayrin is excited to help foster and expand opportunities for everyone.
“Groom Construction is pleased to award these scholarships to these exceptional young leaders who are destined to succeed in their chosen fields and who undoubtedly will make a profound impact on their community,” says Dwight Groom, one of the partners at Groom Construction.
