Key Dates and Deadlines

The National Institute of Genetics (NIG) in Japan is now accepting applications for its NIG Internship Program 2025. This fully funded opportunity offers undergraduate and postgraduate students worldwide the chance to engage in cutting-edge research in genetics and related life sciences

Eligibility

Applicants should be in the prefinal year of their academic program at the time of application, such as:

  • 3rd year of a 4-year bachelor’s program
  • 2nd year of a 3-year bachelor’s program
  • 4th year of a 5-year program
  • 1st year of a 2-year master’s program
  • 5th year of a 6-year program

Students interested in enrolling in NIG’s PhD program are particularly encouraged to apply. Due to the competitive selection process, applications from non-prefinal students and current PhD students are not considered.

Scholarships and Financial Support

The NIG Internship Program provides financial support covering:

  • Round-trip airfare between the intern’s place of residence and Japan
  • Transportation between the airport in Japan and NIG
  • Accommodation fees at NIG’s guesthouse
  • Travel insurance during the program

Please note that living and miscellaneous expenses beyond these provisions are the responsibility of the interns.

How to Apply

Applications are accepted exclusively through the online application system, which opens on December 6, 2024, and closes at noon on January 6, 2025 (Japan Standard Time). Applicants must submit the following documents:

  • Letter of Motivation (up to 500 words)
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Scanned Academic Transcript
  • Two Recommendation Letters from teachers

Recommendation letters must be submitted through the online system by the referees. Detailed application guidelines and the online application portal are available on the official NIG Internship Program page.
